David Sheen Meeting
David Sheen is an Israeli-Canadian independent journalist and film maker, who has uncovered and produced ground-breaking works revealing the extent of racism in Israel towards Palestinians. Sheen began blogging when he first moved to Israel in 1999 and later went on to work as a reporter and editor at the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz. His full-length documentary on ecological architecture, “First Earth”, was translated into a dozen languages and published by PM Press in 2010. Sheen gave a TEDx talk on the topic of the film in Johannesburg, South Africa later that year. Sheen’s talk is “The Bullet, the Ballot and the Boycott,” an in-depth look at Israeli incitement to racist violence, the focus of his on-the-ground reporting for the past five years.Sheen will describe how top Israeli political and religious leaders use dehumanizing discourse to inspire vigilante attacks toward Palestinians, Africans and other non-Jews, especially during the 2014 assault on the Gaza Strip. His talk will include material that Sheen presented at the Russell Tribunal on Palestine in Brussels, as well as new information never before been made public in English.
He is currently writing a book about African immigrants to Israel and the struggles they face.
