Join us for a festive protest outside Barclays Bank on Market St, Manchester on Saturday 20th December starting at 11am.  We will sing “festive” songs , some with words specially for Barclays, to highlight their involvement in the arms trade and their part in Israel’s vicious bombing of Gaza this summer through investment in  Israel’s expanding arms industry.

Israel’s secretive arms trade is booming and it is now estimated to be the fourth largest arms exporter in the world surpassed by only the US, Russia and France. It constitutes between 10-20% of Israel’s exports. Israel trades on the basis that its weapons are field tested. Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are guinea pigs for an industry that earns Israel $1,000 per head of population.

Since 2009 the UK has licensed almost £50 million of weapons sales to Israel. The UK is spending millions every year on Israeli military exports. What is more Israeli drone manufacturer Elbit Systems is working with UK arms company Thales UK on a Ministry of Defence contract worth nearly £1 billion. (Source CAAT News)
