Join the demonstration this Saturday 12pm at Piccadilly Gardens, as Manchester continues to stand with Palestine!
This week, after 14 months of genocide, we commemorate 16 years since Israel waged a three-week assault against Palestinians in Gaza, killing almost 1,400 Palestinians, including 330 children, and wounding thousands more.
On 27th December 2008, Israel launched its bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza in a barbaric onslaught, a year after having been placed under a brutal siege maintained ever since, which controls the air, sea and land by way of suffocating blockade.
We need only glance at past atrocities committed against Palestinians to see the present pattern of behaviour of the Zionist entity is a cyclical one; one repeated again and again over decades of ethnic cleansing and colonisation. During the 2008-2009 onslaught, just one assault amongst many, Israel targeted houses, academic institutions, places of worship, bombing and slaughtering Palestinians as they slept with relentless air strikes; sights we have witnessed every day since 7th October 2023.* On 3rd January 2009, Israel launched a ground invasion, entering from the north utilising artillery fire and fighter jets, reminiscent of the regime’s current actions as it attempts to exterminate North Gaza by way of the “General’s Plan”.
It is no coincidence that the same tactics used by Israel in Gaza 16 years ago are being employed as we speak, fuelled by genocidal intent. Every time an atrocity is committed, we think we have seen the worst and Israel will finally be held to account. Yet Israel merely unleashes increasing and unprecedented horror as it tortures, murders and brutalises, never allowing Palestinians to recover or rebuild.
We are witnessing the worst genocide in modern history, live-streamed before our very eyes. This is not a conflict; this is what happens when a settler-colonial power has been allowed to act with impunity for 76 years. It is up to us to demand the justice and freedom we wish to see in this world, and our demand is for Palestine to be free, once and for all.
All out for Palestine this Saturday 28th December at 12pm in Piccadilly Gardens!
