Join us on Saturday 28th March in Manchester to commemorate Palestine Land Day and the Great March of Return! Stop Israel’s Theft of Palestine! Meeting at Piccadilly Gardens, 12pm
On 30 March 1976, Palestinians confronted the Zionist regime by way of a mass uprising, wherein they denounced the theft, confiscation and expropriation of Palestinian land by Israel. This was in response to Israel’s attempt to confiscate over 20,000 dunums of Palestinian land in the Galilee. 6 Palestinians were martyred; killed by Zionist forces as they took part in a demonstration against oppression and dispossession.
30th March 2018 saw the onset of what became known as the Great March of Return, a mass resistance movement which took place at the border separating Gaza from Occupied Palestine. Daily protests spanned until 27th December 2019, with Palestinians demanding the right of return for Palestinian refugees and an end to the Israeli blockade. Israel killed 223 Palestinians and wounded at least 8,000, having used live ammunition to shoot at the protesting masses.
50 years post-Land Day 1976, and 8 years post-Great March of Return, Palestinians are still being subjected to escalating atrocities by Israel. In Gaza, they continue enduring genocide and ethnic cleansing. Palestinians all over Occupied Palestine have been stripped of humanity in the name of Israel’s brutal land grabs, cementing its expansion on stolen land by any means necessary.
It is our duty to honour the martyrs and commemorate the above points of Palestinian revolution history as fuel for the ongoing fight against Zionist settler-colonialism. We must also take action against the likes of Booking.com, which offers properties for rent in illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen Palestinian land, presenting colonised land as a fun tourist destination and shamelessly profiting from this false depiction.
Our message is clear. We will continue to channel the spirit of Palestinian resistance, of an indigenous population who have remained steadfast against all odds. We will not rest until Palestine is freed from the jaws of colonisation.
