The first three days of the famed Giro d’Italia cycling race are scheduled to take place in Israel starting on 4th May. On Saturday 10th March an international day of action is calling for the race start to be relocated from Israel. We need to step up the pressure on professional cycling to hold Israel to account.
We are organising a short ride and protest outside the British Cycling Federation Headquarters in Manchester on Saturday 10th March as part of the International Day of Action.
It’ll be a 15-20 mile ride, routed round some popular neighbourhoods in Manchester, going through the city centre before heading out to the Velodrome, with the focus being on a protest outside the offices of British Cycling. It’s an opportunity to get out on our bikes as the first practice ride for The Big Ride for Palestine, with the temperatures expected to reach a scorching 6C or 7C!
We’ll meet on Chorlton Green (M21 9HS) at 12.00 noon. For riders starting in Levenshulme , we’ll meet on the Fallowfield Loop by the Slade Lane entrance at 11.30am and cycle to Chorlton Green. The ride will head towards the city centre via Rusholme and onto the cycle lane into Manchester to Piccadilly Gardens before continuing to the Velodrome getting there by 2.00pm. We’ll be there for about an hour, which might include time in the cafe if it’s particularly cold or wet.
If it is particularly wet or cold on the Saturday, we’ll meet in Piccadilly Gardens at 1.30 pm for the short ride to the Velodrome. Please phone me on my mobile – 07727 858385 – if you’re planning to come, and the weather is borderline.
