Public Meeting: Palestine & Israel – Where Are We and Where Are We Headed?

Ruth Edmonds, ICAHD (Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions)

19:00-21:00 Thursday 26th February 2015

Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester, M2 5NS (behind the Central Library).

Ruth will speak about being an Israeli Jewish activist struggling against the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Looking at the general picture in Palestine and the infrastructure which makes up the Matrix of Control which lies behind Israel’s occupation of Palestine, she will then focus on the subject of Global Palestine and how the development of the Matrix of Control has lead to Israel exporting the occupation and its security infrastructure to countries around the world, including the UK. Ruth’s talk will pose the following questions: Where are we headed? What does a just peace mean? What needs to happen to ensure justice for Palestine, and what do the Israeli elections hold for a just equal future?

She will finish by discussing the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and what you can do to support the Palestinian struggle for freedom, justice and equal rights.

Ruth Edmonds is an Israeli/British activist who has lived in the region on and off for 16 years. She has been most recently active with Anarchists Against the Wall and Boycott From Within. In the past she has held different roles in various organisations from the Alternative Information Center and Ma’an Development Agency, Palestinian/Israeli photography collective ActiveStills and as a counsellor for New Profile. Currently working as an Advocacy Officer for the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, Ruth is also focusing on organising a Training for Transformation programme in the region.
