Join the demonstration in Manchester this Saturday 23rd November for the 60th consecutive weekly protest in solidarity with Palestinians!
This week, we stand United Against Scholasticide, demanding an end to Israel’s destruction of Palestinian education! Meeting at Platt Field’s Park (next to the Costume Museum), 12pm
Over the last year of genocide in Gaza, the Zionist regime has relentlessly targeted Gaza’s academic institutions, rendering all schools and universities destroyed or non-functional. This grim erasure of Palestinian education is a large part of Israel’s violent pursuit of expansion, having been used as a colonial tool over the last 76 years.
The term ‘Scholasticide’ was first coined by Palestinian academic Karma Nabulsi during Israel’s 2009 assault on Gaza, referring to the eradication of the intellectual foundations of Palestine by Israel. The suppression of academic freedom is a calculated part of the continuous Nakba being inflicted against Palestinians, in attempt to destroy the cultural fabric of Palestine and deny Palestinians the right to education.
Birzeit University has called upon worldwide academic communities to join the Right to Education campaign between 23rd – 30th November, standing United Against Scholasticide. This is in response to an urgent call from Palestinian academics and administrators of Gaza Universities, reaffirming their existence and resilience in the face of ongoing genocide.
Here in Britain, our own academic institutions, such as the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, not only permit and encourage the normalisation of Israel in the Western conscious, but have maintained financial ties to the regime. It is our duty to amplify the call of Palestinians in Gaza and across Occupied Palestine to protect education, a beacon of hope, from Zionist destruction.
We will not rest until all universities and learning institutions sever their ties to Israel and no longer perpetuate Zionist narratives. There is no academic neutrality in genocide!
Join us this Saturday 23rd November at 12pm to stand United Against Scholasticide, meeting at Platt Field’s Park (next to the Costume Museum)!
