All out in Manchester on Saturday 6th September, 12pm, St Peter’s Square. Stop Gaza genocide! No schools in Gaza this year!
As students around the world commence new semesters, students in Gaza have had their schools and universities targeted by the Zionist regime, which, in its brutal genocide of Palestinians, has pointedly destroyed over 80% of academic institutions in Gaza.
Over 20,000 Palestinian children have been slaughtered by the regime, and thousands more unknown martyrs remain. While children around the world embark upon next steps to building their futures, Israel has ensured that countless Palestinians children no longer have futures; entire young generations currently being starved, bombarded and ripped apart day-in, day-out.
This is the second year that Palestinian students in Gaza have had their dreams of education crushed, a right denied to over 758,000 children. Ahmad Abushawish, a young writer and activist from Gaza, described his experience of living through genocide at the expense of everything, including hopes and aspirations, stating ‘….the academic calendar, with all its important dates, has been replaced by a grim schedule of air strikes, displacement, and loss of friends and loved ones.’
Every type of decimation in Gaza, including that of dreams and desires, is deliberate. Everything atrocities Israel has committed calculated. Its aim is to extinguish resilience and capitalise on despair.
It seeks to suffocate every breath of life and notion of resistance.
Yet, Palestinians have resisted and navigated this genocide in astounding ways. They continue to remain steadfast against Israel despite all nefarious tactics being employed against them. We must channel this spirit of resilience as we fight alongside Palestinians here in Britain, which continues to build its economy using the severed limbs of Palestinians, the cogs of its capitalist system crushing the bones of Palestinian children as they continue to mercilessly turn.
The British government is enabling and propping up a brutal regime that has killed over 60,000 documented martyrs in Gaza over the course of this genocide, 17,000 of whom being students and 800 being teachers. We have seen documented the slaughter of children through decimation of schools, hospitals, tents used as makeshift shelter. It is despicable that it is “business as usual” in Britain whilst our government is complicit in war crimes committed by Israel.
We cannot and will not stand idly by and allow Israel to continue destroying Palestinian lives and lands. We will not rest until we see Palestinians living in dignity and freedom in their homeland.
So join the demonstration this Saturday 6th September, 12pm, St Peter’s Square!
