TO PREVENT YOUR COUNCIL TAX SUPPORTING ISRAELI APARTHEID
Research has identified that Local Government Pension Schemes (LGPS) funds hold £4.4 billion in companies complicit with Israel’s violations of Palestinian rights . This includes companies active in, or with, Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise on stolen Palestinian land, as well as companies supplying weapons, components, and military technology used in unlawful violence against Palestinians.
Across the UK, pension scheme members and their representative trade unions, supported by PSC, are calling on the Local Government Pension Scheme to remove investments from companies complicit. This is not just an issue for people receiving a local government pension or paying into a local government pensions scheme but also the wider public as this is public money.
To focus on pensions in the north of England a northern group has been established to lobby pension fund trustees of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund, West Yorkshire Pension Fund to follow through on their ethical commitments by divesting from all companies that operate in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. As part of this, a petition to pension fund trustees has been launched.
