PALESTINE – PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE: THE HISTORY OF ISRAEL & PALESTINE 1948 TO THE PRESENT DAY

The History of Israel & Palestine 1948 – the Present Day: Young Palestinian’s Perspectives

Presenter:  Michael Lavalette

Based on interviews with close to two hundred young Palestinians, this talk will look at the impact of displacement, occupation and oppression on the Palestinians of the West Bank. The talk will include appropriate reference to the history of Palestine (pre and post Nakba) and will consider the future struggle for Palestinian rights.

Michael Lavalette is Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at Liverpool Hope University. He is author of (among others) a book on Palestine called Voices From the West Bank (2011). Between 2003 and 2014 he was an independent socialist councillor in Preston – where, in 2003, he attempted (albeit unsuccessfully) to twin Preston with Nablus. He is a regular visitor to Palestine and takes student social workers to the West Bank every second year where they live and work in the Tulkarem refugee camp.
